Hello my Darlin Dears, furry meadow creatures that dance in the morning steam of breath from a bear & you amazing gnomes I miss every second while here in the city,

Miss Lamb your flower loving Farmer here,

Well, I have been in lovely OKC for nearly a whole week now....& goodness gracious I have been working hard:)

..in fact, I created a mini world:)

I must say....every muscle in my body is sore:) a good sore though:) I am used to hard labor, & I thought the stringing of the structure would be a cinch, but goodness gracious...this was harder on my body than I thought it would be..

We started with the bare bones structure that I built with the help of Hugh Meade:)

Then....I worked on stringing the structure:)

here is a lovely video my friend Clarissa took:)

Once, the string was complete, I added lights & honey:)

Then... here came the hankies & all of the other goodies:) 5000 hankies....50 magnifying glasses, 50 jars of honey:)

I had a really lovely time at the show:) I got flowers from a special someone too:)

In addition, I met one of the cutest little girls at the opening night:) She was my favorite art patron... she wanted to take home my handkerchief fort:)

I promise to post a few more posts about the show, but thank you again to all of you folks who kindly donated your hankies :) It really does mean a world & a half:)

Hello my darlin dears, Handsome meadoew creatures who sit on my window seal & you helpful gnomes who are trying to drag me outside to plant purple potatoes today, but they know I haft to get ready for my show!!:)

I am hammering nails into 2x4's..... 2x2's......4x4's.... a few 1x4's....all cedars...& now I have some blisters:)

They are being used as tacks for string to wrap around to support Handkerchiefs, honey & magnifying glasses:)

But, I am using Grandpas 9 pound hammer:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, handsome meadow creatures who are helping me plants Beets & you Gnomes who I expect to help me work on my garden and help me hammer those 800 or so large headed tack nails into various 2x4's...only 3/4 an inch though:)

My goodness gracious....

I start installing the lovely cedar structure & pieces on Monday:) ...Monday...

A few days away:)

I am no longer anxious or nervous...I am just ready to take it on:) Create create create:)!!

I did some last minute pocket watch and honey captures:) Enjoy these:)

....& then some lovely pocket watches:)

I am still working on lights and doing some pre-planning with the structure, but other than that, I am feeling very secure about the instillation:) I will require lots of coffee & chicken noodle soup, cheese & fruit to survive (creative fuel)

Hello my Darlin Dears, wonderful meadow creatures who I am begging to stay out of my spring seeds I just planted (especially my sugar snap peas.... do not mess with my Sugar Snap Peas) & you lively Gnomes who are helping me bake bread today:

Ooohhhhh rain.....

It has been cloudy here at Early Bird Acres for the last two days.... but alas, no rain my loves....

We sure could use it:)

Thee are thick and lovely tufts of grass and clover all over, but those can only be sustained my some extra rain..

Not to mention our wheat crop:)

in addition, in less than a week, I shall be constructing my Cedar structure & putting up the many handkerchiefs for lovely Momentum:)

Goodness gracious I am tired...& nervous... & just have a lot of angst ..

So what do I do when I am a bit tense..

I bake:)

Today it is a Honey Wheat bread... I milled the flower around 7am (i have been up since 3:00am...I had to rise and shine because of anxious thoughts) & it is currently rising in the oven:)

I find yeast simply magical:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, wonderful meadow creatures who become more lively on those sunny days & you Gnomes.... who are enjoying the last bit of Hard Cheddar from my summer cheese making adventures this lovely week,

so.... the lovely Ohio is officialy dry, upon my decision:)

Ohio is my milk cow:)

I am enjoying my last bit of Hard Cheedar & when I settle down for this evening on the farm, I will enjoy my last bit of Mozzerella from my precious girl:)

She will probably not Freshen (have a baby cow, & with that, produce an amazing amount of milk yet again) until next July or August:)

I just love making cheese:)!!

But with that, I am looking into expanding my Herd again and getting another Jersey Cow:)

...Now I just must hope beyond hope that my art shows go really well so I can afford one!!:)

in previous posts I talked about the amazing group of OVAC sending a group of individuals, including the lovely Kelsey Karper & Beau Leland, out to EBA for a day of frolicing and capturing the process called my art,

I simply can not decide which I like most...light moves and shifts like the Orchard in which I was grown, ya know?:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, meadow creatures that wake up in the morn with heavy dew upon their fur & you wonderful Gnomes who are begging me to break out the home brew kit very soon,

Miss Lamb your busy bee of a farmer here,

As many of you know, I have a very big show coming up.

In addition, as many of you Oklahomans can attest to, spring is upon our backs my darlin dears.

I spend my early morns feeding the chickens (yes…. I made them oatmeal this morn and threw in some milo & sprouted wheat), sharing an apple with my milk cow Ohio & the donkeys Fred & Ohio, looking fondly upon the pig pasture where my 3 little bluegrass animals happily frolicked those many months ago & dreaming of the future small barn, with tiny hay loft and stalls for my future hair sheep and friendly gelding whom I have yet to meet, shall be…

But between every breath, and every other pulse, there lives my art..

My art is as important to me as my farming…in fact… there is no separation. While I am milking my cow, I am also creating art.

I know it sounds odd… but if you lived here with me at the foot of the Wichitas, it would not seem odd at all…

I have been having nightmares as of late about the show coming up. I am not necessarily scared about the show; it is just that it is a lot to take on.

A large cedar structure (thank goodness gracious for Hugh… you are a lifesaver☺

I want to do a great job… I have been working the last year on this project, & this is a culmination of thousands of emotions and moments spent in backlit suspension.

I have nightmares of being stuck in thousands of strings and strangled by handkerchiefs….of glass on frames shattering with a touch. Of light bulbs shutting off all together.

But it is all because I love this project so much….

The instillation that has been come to known by “Girl Like An Orchard, Orchard Like A Girl” is my thought of nearly every second…. As I fall asleep it is the words, ideas and touch that traces small circles upon my skin… never-ending loops that follow the hills and hollers…

Completion with goodness is something like the question I set before my Garden…

Here you are Garden…. One in your second year… your ground is very tough, yet fertile… I have chosen not to till you deeply and quickly, but lovingly make you compost tea every day and slowly add manure back into your soil… Soil is everything my sweet garden, and I have chosen too bring you to completion..

Spending time and adding concern is an act of love…

When I think of someone who really cares about me and wants to be a part of my life, I think of how they take an interest in my everyday events… simple questions and loving answers….

This is what I do with my art & this lovely project… I ask it simple questions and procure my creativity to receive loving answers…

Hello my Darlin Dears, furry meadow creatures whom sleep on my feet while I nap & you sweet Gnomes who keep on talking about Ducks...they are just really excited about Ducks this March:)

So....while on an adventure with one of my fellow farm friends to go and get some baby chicks for him, I was given a rooster:)

My friend volunteered a name, & from there he was called "Charles" ..but most call him Charlie:)

I have taken a few captures with my I-Pad:)

but.....it seems Charles is Popular with the masses:) I have received over a bakers dozen posts & emails from people containing images of Charles:)

for the time being, until i get some Ducks this spring, he will be sticking with me:) we are for some adventures in Norman, America today to record some fiddle tunes, & that should be fun:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, those tree dwelling meadow creatures & the gnomes...my precious gnomes... spring will be here before you know it & we shall grow Basil!!:)

This past week, the lovely group/family that I adore called OVAC sent the talented Beau Leland (& his lovely wife Stefanie) & the amazing Kelsey Karper out to my farm:)

They are filming a bit for the Momentum Spotlight artist profile videos:)

Anyways, lovely Kelsey took some captures of me doing my craft:) & the other captures at the bottom:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, large meadow creatures who help me till my fields (I can't stop thinking of draft horses) & those Gnomes... who helped me harvest some carrots in the cold (kind of difficult when the soil is near frozen, but the soup was worth it!!:),

Well, we have been blessed with a irregular amount of sunshine and heat the last few months, & it turn, a few of Rodgers hives produced some amazing honey in what we like to call "The Green Valley"...a patch of thick green meadow grass, alfalfa & purple clover...& lots of other little daises & such:) We have been harvesting & spinning it the last couple of weeks:)

This is some of the honey lingering in my art studio:)

The last few days however have been a bit cold:)

Just yesterday I made a lovely Chicken noodle soup, & harvesting carrots is very difficult in the cold...the carrots have a tendency to stick in the ground, & if you pull to hard, you simply pull off the green portion, thus trapping your lovely home grown carrots in the cold frozen ground....but, I persisted and harvested about 15 full grown carrots that went into my Chicken Noodle Soup:)

....it turned out lovely:) the chicken gave it's life for a good cause:) I gave some to the old men, some to my aunt & grandma across the pasture, another to the lovely Elizabeth & Meg at Cuppies & Joe (why..because they are simply great...& I love em!!) & I am saving one jar for a special person who shall not be named...

...& what a conincidence :)

I open up my e-mail to find a capture of the cover of a book I am going to be in, & it has a carrot on the front:)

...the book has lovingly been put into this world by the people at Greenhorns:) A society that I am proud to be a part of, & one that any young farmer can learn from:) Thanks Storey Publishing for putting out the book & all of you amazing editors...I am sure it was fun keeping track of so many contributors :)

The book is not out just yet, but I will be as sure as the morn to let you folks know when it tis:)

What I can tell you is that this book is a compiled gathering of Storeys and such, written by & for, other beginning farmers...heck..maybe even the old timers can learn a thing or two...I like to think I teach the old men something every time we get together for coffee or a whole-hearted breakfast:)

I am really excited today to be hanging around Cuppies & Joe from about 10a.m. till about 4p.m. (I will leave some items behind encase you arrive late) & then over to a farm gathering also in the big city:)

...I just really need to spend some time talking to other farmers my own age....ya know?:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, comical meadow creatures that love the extra milk after milking & you ooohhh so sweet Gnomes who felt bad about the Jam incident, so some how found me 10 new blackberry plants:)

Spring is just around the corner, and here in lovely Oklahoma, I believe... just maybe..we are being blessed with a early Spring:)

Most mornings, I have been picnicking with these lovely faces:)

...in just a few weeks, I hope to re-introduce these handsome and lovely creatures back onto the farm:)

Yap:) Ducks:)!!... & possibly Geese:)

As many of you might know, during one of my trips for an art show last year, coyotes got my whole flock of Chickens...well, besides Canadian & Caddo :) They hid in the barn:) I have missed the presence of ducks dearly...I adore how they follow each other around and make gentle quacking noises:)

...I adore how they dive into the water and pop back up...as happy as peaches:)

I have been studying ways too fatten up my Ducks & Geese, while keeping them still free range :)

I have decided that between all of my Restraunt and store locations that will be giving me their excess, I shall be trying my luck with olives:) Amongst other fatty items:)

But, what I am really interested in is trying my hand at making perfect Foie Gras :) I can't wait to investigate this adventure:)

The important part though is that they are happy:) No force feeding:)

Captures From A Pathless Meadow Of A Mind”

We are all born with qualities of The Woodland in our personality, demeanor and in the way we speak sweet and light words. As if in our nature, we also seek out these same qualities through the day.

In my exploration of human nature, we are inclined to adorn the already wonderful images of our day with the fanciful. Where could our breaths that turn into the stories of our days could have grown, but from the fields of Wheat and Barley? What sweet bird of song would not want to share your table of milk or palette of honey? I haft to ask myself, did I wake this early morn feeling more like the Rabbit of the meadow or the Bear of the forest?
“More Bear Than Rabbit, More Rabbit Than Bear” is a still moment of captured truth, framed in raw wood. A truth that is unspoiled by the perfection that leys prey to time and the wicked, all cast against the pathless meadow of a mind. Each image contains not only a reflection of our own lifeline, but braids it with the permanence of the natural world. The light dappled through trees and then felt upon ones face might not be just light, but a quality of warmth and goodness we seek fervently.

A girl that is raised by wolves would not look upon one with fear, just because that is what is expected. She first looks at it’s eyes and will see a reflection of her own. A whole-heart cannot be found unless you have given it up to nature to fill.

Things have been ooohhhh so busy here at the Homestead :) I am getting ready for lots of shows:)

This past Monday, the lovely curators for an art show I am in, in March, called Momentum, came & visited my farm:) Even though it was ooohhh so windy, we have a lovely time talking about my project called "Girl Like An Orchard, Orchard Like A Girl" & they looked at my thousands of Hankies & many a jar of honey and magnifying glasses:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, my oh so anwry meadow creatures who continue to try to steal my beer bread (especially those bears…they love beer bread) & the Gnomes, who wrapped up Birch the bear cub and put him under the tree, all because I said I enjoyed baby bears…it was comical to see Birch perpetually clawing out of the wrapping paper and the Gnomes trying to hide it,

As many of you already know, I am lucky enough to be a momentum spotlight artist this year, and with that, my dream Handkerchief world will be created in the lovely Downtown OKC Farmer Market Building.

I am also in the process of creating lots of new artwork…

A large portion of the series is about the comparison of a Girl and an Orchard… I just adore femininity and of the curves and curls us as women posses… I also love pairing the smooth gears and gleam of a pocket watch to the soft floral patterns of a pocket watch. It basically sings the melody of what I am trying to achieve.

So Far, But Always Near

Helllllooooo my sweet Darlin Dears, those handsome meadow creatures who are making homes in my Christmas tree and wreaths & those hilarious gnomes who stayed up all night and made self portraits out of sugar cookies & fed me some sort of tree sap when I could sleep do to my horrible cold,

Miss Lamb your fancy baked Mac and cheese farmer here (with my own cheese of course!!)

Well, I was happier than a peach to return home from my OKC/Tulsa adventure to find a whole pickup cab full of packages (the lovely and amazing mail woman ran out of room in the mailbox, so she filled up the cab of my old white Chevy with packages and letters)

Ohhhh so sweet letters…

Amazing cards full of glitter (yes…you got me back Miranda….Glitter is all over my dinning room and on Harold)

Over 700 Handkerchiefs!!! Yes…700…I stayed up and counted them:)

…& my favorite package, because it came with an adorable message :)

…& A Wendell Berry book from my Amazon wish list sent to me from a secret admirer (who ever you are out there, thank you….I appreciate your kind gesture)

Communication is a lovely thing…in addition, even the lack of communication can be a good thing…there is nothing I adore more than meeting up with one of my friends I have not seen in ages and catching up with life and such…Smiles that can illuminate a room and laughs that add a whole new echo to every corner:) Living in a cottage far away from any of my friends makes this scenario play out often…

For Christmas, I wanted to write a few words for a few of my best friends in this sweet old world..

Ooohhh my writing friend…oh my best friend…. Well, we do have matching tattoos☺ You surprise me around every turn… you seem to know your friends better than they know themselves, and I am overjoyed you are in my life ☺ I miss you all the time and I am glad we both liked Minus The Bear :)

You my dear are the hardest worker I know. You love your friends and family very well and are willing to sacrifice anything you posses for them. We are going to miss you when you leave for your internship, but what a better opportunity to have a team birthday meet-up in a foreign country!!:)

Just last Saturday, I received a large package of about 37 Handkerchiefs from one of you ooohh so kind dears, and I had a lovely time creating a makeshift care package for them...I even put some hot cocoa I made in there:)

So again, if you have any Pastoral Handkerchiefs or string, send it my way:) I can not tell you everything about the project and world I am creating (because that just spoils the surprise) but it means a lot to me...the world and a half:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, the rather chubby meadow creatures who are stocking up for future storms & those comical Gnomes who are visiting from the forests of Oregon & brought 3 bushels of apples (It was basically a hint saying "Hey...we want an apple pie Miss Lamb!!)

As I have mentioned before, my lovely friend Erin Austin is staying with me for the lovely month of December:)

I want her to have a lovely Christmas when she can't be with her family for the holidays, so I threw in my home and meadow ideas to help host a dinner for some of Erin's friends from all around:)

2 cups of Spelt Flour (or bread flour if you do not have it:)
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoon white sugar
1/2 cup chilled butter, diced very well
1 cup whole milk

Here is how you perform this lovely magic:)

Directions:

*Preheat an oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).

*Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl. I sift it all together multiple times (ladies and gents...a flour sifter is your best friend:)

* Cut in the cold butter with a knife. I actually shave the very cold butter so it will be as fine as possible.

* Add milk a little at a time, stirring lightly between additions.

*Drop the batter by spoonfuls into a muffin pan, and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the tops are golden. I like mine slightly more doughy inside, so I usually turn off the heat around 10 minutes and let them bake with the oven door open for the last two or so...(I know...Random...but it works)...

I make a classic sausage, biscuits and gravy with these...but you my darlin dears can add maple syrup to make them sweet or cranberries to make them festive:) Your choice:)

Hello my darlin dears, furry meadow creatures that are trying to hibernate amongst my quilts and those adorable gnomes who refused to let me go to bed last night without first making chocolate chip cookies and then caramel apples,

Ooohhh my Darlin Dears...I must say.....I am so excited about this week:) I get the lovely opportunity to decorate for Christmas, spend time with the wonderful Erin, package art for the ooohhh so fun Deluxe and then participate in Deluxe!!:)

...maybe even try to throw a brunch in there on Sunday:)

Myself and the Gnomes have been very busy getting things ready for Deluxe..... I want there to be as many goodies as possible for you folks out there:)

...& as promised, I will not stop bugging you about Handkerchiefs:)

Here is my last few days in Instagram captures....

I hit a muddy patch on our way to the mountains for a picnic, and got the truck stuck:)

.....so we had our picnic with wine and such on the side of the road.....we waited patiently for my cousin to pick us up:) We snapped the tow chain twice while trying to get out...& laughed even more:)

After that....I took Erin to a auction:)

...You might just haft to wait and see what I bought:)

ooohhh...ok.. you pulled my leg:)

I bought a huge armoire for only 19 dollars, and we put it in the guest cottage where Erin is ..

I also bought a huge cabinet thing for 11....& I put it in my art studio:)

..Oh...& I bought a huge pump organ for a buck!!:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, Wonderful meadow creatures who serve as a bit of color to the bare trees of fall & those oh so kind Gnomes who invited me to their own thanksgiving feast:)

I hope you all had a lovely thanksgiving :) I sure did....friends, family & a rather charming adventure out for waffle house hot cocoa:)

The year my darlin dears is coming to a close, and the many lovely days of 2012 are lining up to be very dreamy....i will be the meadow age of 27 this January, and Oooohh how the holidays make you reflect:)

Many a story am I looking forward to though:)

Story my owl continues to return to the old pecan tree on the side of the house...a lot more than usual as of late...nearly every night:) She will even sing into the morning...as if she is trying to replace the void that my rooster left:)

I have a story I get to create at many a lovely gallery.... some stories with intricate hearts... Some with thousands of Handkerchiefs...some with simple wildflower seeds:) What a blessing to be able to work with a park...create a story there:)

...& then their is a life story....I can't help but think about that story...I am a young girl with a cottage on my mind:)

When I say cottage, I mean an ideal of a cottage:) Being a single girl, I think about how I want to fill that cottage:)

I had a dream last night of an individual... Heck...ok...I had a dream about a dreamy future husband...but I could not see his face...it was more of an impression...this individual basically transfered my emotions into a landscape around the farm:) He built me a flower garden, a vegetable garden, a stable & a new barn with a hay loft... all out of love:) Someone who cares not only for you, but what you care about:)

Someone I can bake for:)

But that is the joy... That is the peach...being able to think of things like that:)

It is all derived from inspiration...& it all is lovely rain for inspiration:)

Something magical has happened....

Something wonderful has been given to me...

Goodness Gracious I am Honored and soooo excited:)

I have the honor of being a momentum spotlight artist come this March:)!!

You may ask what that means:) Well, just go right here and find:)

What this means for me though is that I get to create my dream world of Handkerchiefs, honey & light for hundreds of people:)

Yap yap yap....I must say, I am happier than a peach:)

& just today I received many a lovely package from across the U.S. of Handkerchiefs :) From a sweet Georgia peach to a girl of the ocean in California, the handkerchiefs as sure as the day made me smile:)

Given this opportunity in March, I as more than ever need your help.... the simple help of Handkerchiefs :)

I want to make this small world of mine very epic, and that means lots of Handkerchiefs:)

In addition, you can send me twine, cord and string of every color for another facet of the project....no thick yarn, but everything else will work fine:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, wonderful meadow creatures whom help me collect firewood for the winter & the funny little Gnomes who woke me up this morn with Hot Cocoa (gosh I love hot cocoa)..

Well, we have made it through Earthquakes, Tornadoes & Floods in the last 48 hours...I am not even joking as crazy as it sounds:)

...& I am creating lots of art of course:)

....& I had a bit of fun with my new Bio picture:)

All of my bio pictures crack me up because I always seem to be on the brink of laughing... I just cant help it:)

I keep on freaking myself out though in the mirror every time I catch myself in it.... Got myself really good two night ago when I was letting out one of the dogs and checking on the cows... It was very late... I went back inside & heard the door open on the other side of the house.... I crept into the other room and turned the corner to only jump out of my skin when I saw red hair... but it was just me:)

I am looking forward to working very hard on my pieces for a show I have coming up at Cuppies & Joe on the 18th of Nov.:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, Handsome meadow creatures who sing from the barn rafters & those hilarious Gnomes who picked me a whole tree of apples....sadly, it was not my tree:)

I guess it is the thought that counts:)

As many of you know, it was a tough loss at Early Bird Acres when the coyotes got all of my chickens and ducks, but with joy, there have been some new babys hatched:)

Welcome to the world baby chicks:)!!

I have been having a lot of fun with my instagram (my handler name is earlybirdacres) ....a few fun captures of the babies:)

I stitched it about 3 years ago when I was trapped in my house for a whole week and a half because of snow:) It has a lot of memories :)

I definitely encourage seasonal quilts....this coming spring, I want to sew a Strawberry themed quilt:) Vintage strawberry print squares, lots of greens, creams and reds:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, the smart meadow creatures who have been harvesting and keeping seeds and those oh so kind Gnomes who helped me plant potatoes today:)

So....I have been hard at work on a little project my darlin dears:)

It is part installation and part gallery show:)

"Girl Like The Orchard, Orchard Like The Girl"

A 7ftx7ftx7ft square, made of whole branches of polished Red Cedar, will be covered in multiple colors of string....thousands upon thousands of feet of string:) In addition, over 3 thousand handkerchiefs will cover the lengths of string:) A large pillar of antique light bulbs will be set in the center to create a pulsating glow of morning-light that will back-light the antique and loved on Handkerchiefs :) This structure will also be scattered with antique magnifying glasses of various colors and sizes:) Makes you look a bit closer ;)

It is all growing and such...& the shows shall be kept quiet until they draw a bit closer:)

...But....I need more HANDKERCHIEFS!!:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, Fellow meadow creatures who are building nests in my wood pile & the adorable Gnomes who helped me press the apples for Cider,

Miss Lamb your Pumpkin Pie loving farmer here,

So....you may have been wondering where I have been...

Ten pounds later....5 different pie recipes... I have made the perfect pumpkin pie..

At least in my sweet old world...

I should know because I ate a little over half of that one:)

So yes...I tried many different recipes and I believe I have created for you the best, made from scratch, Pumpkin Pie:)

I am one serious peach....just for you Darlin Dears I ate my way through 5 pies:)

Hard work....

So here it is Darlin Dears:)

*Early Bird Acres Pumpkin Pie*

You shall need:)

*One Deep Dish Pie Pan

*1 Lovely Crust (pick a savory recipe)

*3 cups of pumpkin pulp from a sugar pumpkin (I picked three small one from the garden)

*1 cup of heavy cream

*2 Tablespoons of Spiced Cider

*3 Tablespoons of Sour Cream

*1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar

*1/3 cup white sugar

*3 eggs

*2 Teaspoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice

*1 teaspoon ground ginger

*1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

*1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

*3 teaspoons of cinnamon

Making your 3 cups of pumpkin..

Cut your pumpkins in half and scoop out the seeds and stringy bit... (keep seeds of course...& bake em!!)... place halves of pumpkin face down in a glass casserole dish, and add two cups of water...bake the pumpkin in the oven at 350 until the outside is oh so slightly golden brown....Take out the pumpkin, and scoop out the flesh:)

Steps my Love:

#1. Butter Pie plate

#2. Pre-heat oven to *450

#3. Mix sugars, spices and cream into pumpkin

#4. Beat Eggs into the pumpkin

#5. Stir in the cream, sour cream & spiced cider until well swirled

#6. Pour into deep pie shell

#7. Bake your pie for 7 minutes at *450 and then decrease your temp to *350 for 40-55 minutes, until your crust is a deep gold and you can run a butter knife cleanly through the center:)

......Then eat the darn pie with whip cream from your closest milk cow:)

Oregon Apple Pie:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, fellow meadow creatures whom like watching their breath steam into the cold as I do & those helpful Gnomes who helped me move hay this morn,

Your Fall dish adorning Farmer here:)

As most of you know, I am a pie maker....

I make a pie every day in fact:)

As per many requests via post and e-mail, I am going to do a blog series on all of my favorite pies:)

Prep-
*Butter up your pie pan
*Pre-heat oven to 370

First up, is my favorite Apple Pie Recipe of my own making:)

*First...use your favorite crust recipe & make sure you prepare enough for not only your bottom crust, but your many hearts on top:) This is a more savory apple pie, so I simply use a classic crisco, butter and flour combo:) Once you have your crust down, sprinkle some cinnamon, brown sugar & white sugar on the bottom:)

*Second...Cut up at least 4 red variety of apples...I like to use 2 Gala Apples & 2 Jonathan Apples (these were what in harvest when I was in Oregon a few weeks ago, hence the name of the pie)...

*Third is the lovely drizzle/filling.... this is made by melting together 1 cup of butter, 3/4 cup of dark brown sugar & 1/4 the cup of white sugar....this should all be melted together over medium heat in a sauce pan....once it is all melted together, add 4 tabelspoons of flour and heat until Caramel like:)

*Fourth....Oohhhh the hearts:) Take your favorite heart cookie cutter, or any shape at that, & stamp out enough hearts to cover the top of your pie:) Once you have covered your pie in hearts, sprinkle a bit of white sugar and cinnamon over them:)

Bake the pie for 60 minutes @370 :) or until golden brown:)

Funny enough, the pie was eaten before I was able to take a final capture of it:) Maybe the next pie will have a picture taken of it:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, Fellow meadow creatures who try to nest in my hair & the very loud Gnomes in the barn who I believe broke into last years cider by the way they are singing,

Today....I found out the date that my new baby chickens will be born:)

What Type of chickens do you ask?

Well, I am getting a large variety at first....we really have no idea what we are getting...the eggs range from light blue, dark green, white and brown....but I am sure they will be lovable:)

But, the breed I know I am getting is glorious:)

The handsome Buff Orpington my darlin dears:)

I love how their feathers glow in the early morn and eve:)

They will be spoiled of course...

I sure have missed having chickens....goodness gracious...

I will be sure to post captures strait away when they are born..I promise...

It was truly an honor to attend the Portland farmers market....it was at the top of the Que for me during my trip:)

Here are a few captures:)

The Carrots in Oregon are fairytale:)

I imagine with the rain fall those folks recieve, and their amazing soil....it is the perfect situation for Fairytale Carrots :)

...I fell in love with this guy:) I wanted to give him a big hug:)

We talked about goats...our love for goats...& goat cheese:) Note the little girl in his advertisment kissing a goat...Similar to this capture?:)

We also talked about his milking system...

It seemed lovely:)

The Brussel sprouts were abounding:)

Of Course...lots of Apples & Pears:)

I'm In The Orchard...Part II

Hello my Darlin Dears, the Meadow creatures that tied my hair up in a bow this morn & the sweeter than peach Gnomes whom helped me pick cucumbers this morn,

How are you today? Truly...I want to know..

As I mentioned in my last post, I had way to many captures from the Orchard on Mount Hood for one post, so here is part II:)

First..here are some funny captures of me and Nora...we got a bit carried away:) It felt good to have somebody else taking the captures for once:)

I always adore it when kiddos put their arms around each other and walk around to proclaim all that is good and whole-hearted:) The orchard made me feel like a child in a world of nothing but whole-heart...a pulse of harvest...

....Of course Nora had a story about apples:)

What you do not see is little old me leaning down and taking a big bite out of the apple:) I leaned back and started laughing, and accidentaly flashed the camera....

....& here is my dear friend Nora In the Orchard:)

My Basket....I just adore my basket...& it looks lovely full of apples:)

Ohhh Goodness Gracious...I nearly did not make it to Oregon with the basket...I did not anticipate the first plane I was riding to be so small, and the basket would not fit in the overhead or under my seat...So Miss Lamb in her green dress and oversized bow walked to the front of the cabin and asked kindly if the flight attendent could help me out, & before she could answer, he pilot stepped from behind door and looked me up and down and broke out in a glowing smile..then said "No worries my dear...we make exceptions for Disney Charachters"...

...& of course I had an apron full of Apples:)

....needless to say, I had an amazing time on mount hood:)

I'm In The Orchard...

Helloooo My Darlin Dears, Fellow Meadow Creatures who I sent to gather Walnuts & My sweet Gnomes who I promised to bake an apple pie with this afternoon,

My feet are now back on Red Dirt & I am home:)

After the adventure of Monroe, Holcomb & Stanley getting out for a few days while I was in Portland, it feels good to be back at the homestead :) I am in the process of adopting a whole family of Chickens and Ducks, & ordering a bunch of Babies:)

But....Before I dive back into lovely farm life, I would like to show you a few captures from my trip over the next few days:)

First, Here is the lovely Family I was staying with while I was in Portland:)

(It was actually poring down rain in this capture:)

We Stayed in a Yurt on the coast & had an amazing time with music, cheese & various other forms of happiness:) I also wanted to take the time to say thank you again to my amazing loves Nora, Ivy & Colin...you made my trip oh so amazing and I feel honored to have you in my life....Nora...I am so proud of you...& I am so excited for you and Colin... You sure as the day mean the world and a half, and I am looking forward to helping you out in any way I can (Even if it is just designing your dress tags:)

I also had the pleasure of going to an apple orchard over on Mount Hood... a classic drive known as the fruit loop:)

There Were Green Apples:) (Honey Crisp ready for Harvest)

There Were Red Apples (Johnathan's & Gala In Harvest)

I had no idea there was literally an apple called "Giant Apples" & they were the size of 4 apples together:)

...& thanks to our good friend Chase, we were able to get lots of captures of us picking apples:)

My Goodness gracious...I shall haft to split my Apple Harvest captures up into two posts:) soooo many captures:) I shall post more on the morrow:)

......OOOHHHH...& a big thank you to all of the folks who sent me Handkerchiefs while I was away:) I came home to a bakers dozen packages and I nearly cried:) All of your support and kindness means the world and a half....Things as of late with the drought and coyotes has been tough, but my darlin dear friends are what make me smile....if you sent me a few while I was away, be prepared to recieve a lovely package in the mail:) I am sure me and the Gnomes will be up all night packaging prints and presents:) We will be fueled by the cider that was left in a Jug on my front porch by my old men (thank you Pavil... I will see you on the morrow for Breakfast, because I assume you will be coming over for apple crisp:)

Ha...& I almost forgot..this really happened:)

..I asked Chase to hand me my I-Pad so I could Instagram a capture of apples, & I was confronted with this lovely image..we could not stop laughing:)

.......& that is not even half of it:) Sooooo amazing...

New Beginnings: Life And Lessons of a Farm

Hello my wonderful Darlin Dears, Meadow creatures that sing & the Gnomes who face the dawn with a love of whole-wheat pancakes and sweet milk as I do,

Miss Lamb your...well..farmer here:)

In memory of my sweet chickens and ducks, whom the coyote (or possible bob cat) has claimed all but two chickens now....I went and took a few captures...

It is called..

"The Circle Around My Waist"

...The chickens and ducks always seemed to appreciate a Bucolic scene as much as I do:) They themselves were a Bucolic scene...

They will be available at Indie Emporium this weekend... & I believe I shall set out a small jar for donations for a new flock...ya gotta start somewhere:)

I have been told by my other local farmers that due to the drought, the coyotes and some bobcats have been coming closer and closer to our farms...no other food...

Maybe I should fence in my entire farm and get a Miniature Donkey to protect the chickens now..

The dogs were to scared to meander around my farm last night, & I accidentally fell asleep....

But, I at least had the opportunity to know them:)

I miss you chickens..

Hello my Darlin Dears, The meadow creatures who stay vidual in the night & the sweet Gnomes whom are currently entertaining the lone duck on the farm,

Miss Lamb your white pumpkin picking darlin farmer here,

Ooohhh life...

No matter how long I carry on with this thing called farm life, it is never easy when something bad happens...

As all of you know, I use this place as a personal diary, a place to display art, a space to tell people that no matter what happens it is going to be ok, and a place to let a little more light into every sweet old life in this sweet old world...

Strange enough, I had a dream yesterday night about a group of ducks and chickens being born, and me being very upset because I was trying to save all of them from wolves...

Sadly Enough, I returned home to the farm after being gone for two days while teaching in OKC, and I found all but one duck had been taken from this world, and 5 chickens... including our adorable and loved silkie named appropriately "Love"...he was a adorable rooster who crowed with all of his body...

It was a known fact it was Coyotes...

I found their prints in the mud just outside of the barn yard...broke my heart..

Here is the kicker...I also love the Coyote...

I know it is just feeding it's young... Fearless females that trek over farm land and face gun over gun...

This is not the first time and it is not the last...

What I am taking away from this is a simple fact..there is a circle of life..

....as a farmer it is adorned to my waist...wraps around my chest....leaves my mouth wet or dry...Adorned around every curve of curl on my head...

...at least I knew them while they were here:) I sure did love you ducks and chickens:)

Hello my Darlin Dears, Fellow meadow creatures who set on my window sill in the morn and the sweet old Gnomes who made me Pear Pancakes this morn when I arrived home from killing wild boar,

Miss Lamb your Rosie cheeked because I took a nap under the pecan tree farmer here,

Oaky doaky my loves...the big news:)

As you loves know, I have been inspired a lot by gardens this past season..They are definitely a labor of love:) I simply adore them...

So, I have put together a small show with the amazing artist Bobby Lee:)

I believe he thinks I am crazy, but in a good way...

I sure hope:)

Just telling him I adore his new creations is not enough...Bobby...yeah you with the handsome glasses...you that is simply more Bear than Rabbit....you are the best:)

The opening will be on Sept. the 23rd from 7-9pm at Cuppies & Joe, my good old favorite meadow of a cupcake shop:) The show shall run through the fall:)

We are doing this particular show in conjunction with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, because we love em and appreciate all of the mouths they feed. But also, because we want to spread the word about all of the programs that you as an individual can help out with. Even stopping in and moving a couple of boxes can help my Darlin Dears:)

Wild Boar Tenderloin with fresh Berry Sauce and Truffle oil

32 oz Wild Boar Tenderloin
1 tbs. Diced Shallots
½ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
¼ lb Butter
½ tsp Brown Sugar
½ cup Raspberry Liquor
2 cups Fresh Berry Sauce
3 tbs. White Truffle Olive Oil
½ cup All Purpose Flour
1 tbl Juniper Berry
Salt and Pepper to Taste

Preparation
1) Season Flour with salt and pepper
2) Dust meat with flour
3) Sear meat in hot skillet with olive oil
4) Drain oil from skillet
5) Add butter, shallots, brown sugar and sauté for 2 minutes
6) Glaze with raspberry liquor and juniper berry (If you can not get juniper, I like to use Cranberries)
7) Add Berry Sauce
8) Reduce liquid to half
9) Add Truffle olive oil, salt and pepper to taste and plate.

.........& if you are looking for something simple to pair with wild boar, do not look past your cheeses and wines:) I eat cheese, drink wine and set my heart on a lovely grilled bit of wild boar....Toss it with pasta:)

That is what I shall be eating tonight:)

Oohhhh it has been a lovely past week...

I had an amazing time with my cat cotton yesterday:) We had a picnic of pears, fresh bread and honey:)

The Pears of course were grown from my head...it has a habit of doing that:) I will elaborate in another post:)

I was going to tell you all some exciting news, but I am going to go ahead and wait for on the morrow:) Here is a Hint...

....I am not alone in this project...A person whom I adore is helping me out and he is an even better artist than myself:)

Tonight....my darlin dears....is for the hunt:)

Maybe I have been listening to the tallest man on earths album entitled "The Wild Hunt" a bit to much, but I have felt the need to smell like wood smoke, and me and a couple of my CO-OP buddies are taking to the woods:)

I shall not be wielding a gun...

...I am more of a Bow kind of girl:)

Really...I just enjoy fishing...but with this drought, all of my favorite spots look forlorn and dry..

Wish me luck in the hunt:)

I promise not to post any bloody pictures of them gutted and such on my blog:)

...But I do promise to show you some lovely recipes for wild Boar:)

Now....I must go dig out the good old flannel:)

Helloooooo my Darlin Dears, the meadow creatures who lounge around with me during picnics and the Gnomes who went with me yesterday to go pear picking,

Miss Lamb your cow loving and sheep shearing farmer here,

My darlin dears...the apples are falling here at Early Bird Acres:)

As you saw in my last post, they are even growing from me...

...& Of course they are begging to be taken on picnics with me:)

We had a lovely morn a few days ago (me and the Gnomes) eating apples. toast and honey:) With a big glass of raw milk and a chunk of cheese:)

From Ohio of course:)

The Gnomes need to slow down though..they eat way to many...I need to save some for Pies:)

Cotton also joined us for our picnic :) He likes the red apples:)

So far...I have been on a pie kick:) Dutch apple pie to be exact:)

...but of course, I had to leave a heart in the center:) It can be done with using a cookie cutter while baking in the oven:)

I Even have A Recipe for you:)

Lovely Dutch Apple Pie:

Ingredients:

1 your favorite homemade pie crusts or 1 ready-made pie crust
5 1/2 cups peeled cored sliced cooking apples
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
3 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

The Lovely Crumble On Top:

3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup butter or 1/3 cup margarine, room temperature

Directions:
1-Preheat oven to 375°F.

2-Fit pie crust into pie plate.

3-In a large bowl, mix sliced apples, lemon juice, both sugars,flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.

4-Pile into crust.

5-Prepare topping:.

6-In a medium bowl, with a pastry blender or a fork, mix flour, both sugars, and butter until coarsely crumbled.

7-Sprinkle evenly over apples.

8-Bake at 375°F for 50 minutes.

Hellooooo my Darlin Dears, Meadow creatures that sleep next to pumpkins & the Gnomes whom help me harvest them,

Miss Lamb your bread baking and beer brewing farmer here,

I had a lovely time this past Sunday over at Walnut Creek Farms:)

When I found out that lots of baby pigs were born, I just had to go out there and hang out with those amazing farmers:)

I was so excited to be frolicing with al of the chickens, sheep, pigs and cows that were abiding on the farm, that I only took captures of baby pigs:)

I was in heaven:)

The mothers were taken to a very special holding area to give birth..lots of hay and love:) Allow the babys to be safe:)

We had an amazing dinner, I showed them how to make cheese and I only electrocuted myself once:)

It was a great and lovely drive and trip:)

Thank you for having me out folks:)

I would go on and on about the farm, but I haft to go tend to my own:) My little pigs need fed and their are some herbs that need to be harvested:)

Hello my darlin dears, meadow creatures of the old elm and the precious Gnomes who helped me bake some cookies for the pigs and feed some alfalfa to the cows:)

As mentioned in my last post, I had my friend Amy came out to the farm and we had a lovely day:)

Hello My Darlin Dears, frolicing meadow creatures whom brought me a gaggle of apples and the sweet Gnomes who knitted all of the pigs matching sweaters in anticipation of fall,

Miss Lamb your truck drivin and pond swimming farmer here,

I had the pleasure of having the amazing Amy McCord out to the farm yesterday...she has been of great help here at Early Bird Acres...like any good friend, she has many a time dropped everything and used her precious gas money to come out to the farm and spend some lovely time with me:)

We cooked, we picked weeds, she helped me with some art, she ate (& I think really liked) my dutch apple pie, we drank red wine, we took an amazing day nap and we took the truck out for a spin...below, is a video:)

Yes...I get a bit animated...& do not mind my thick southern accent...it is because I am in my truck:)

I shall share more captures of my adventure with amy, but for now, let me share with you a lovely interview I did for OKC.net :)

If you’ve ever been greeted with a “Hello, my Darling Dear!” you’re probably talking to Miss Samantha Joelle Honey Lamb – photographer extraordinaire, and proprietress of the straight-out-of-a-fairytale farm Early Bird Acres. In an era where people, more often than not, tend to operate from a standpoint of jaded cynicism, Samantha Lamb offers a refreshing counterpoint. She’s as open and warm as they come, and her sweetness is as pure as the honey she produces on her farm.

1. Tell us how Early Bird Acres got started.

My lovely family says I was never born, just grown like a wheat field and they were lucky enough to harvest me. I always knew I wanted to live an Agrarian life. This all came to fruition when I happened to have enough money and a crazy enough mindset to start a homestead by myself. I already found myself going out to Hobart, America every weekend in order to create my art in it’s pastoral scenes, so it seemed like the perfect place. It was not as hard to start a farm as I thought it would be. It was ten times as difficult. Animals are born and they pass away. Gardens thrive and sometimes they are attacked by squash bugs.

My steadfast is the morning. I wake up at 4:30 nearly every morn to milk and start in on chores. I rejoice in the life and art that shall be created and kept for that single day. Sending love to the growing fields is also a daily task, but you never know what the season shall bring. I just feel honored to be perpetually inspired and to live the life I do.

2. Your favorite on-the-farm story:

There are way to many to say really. I try to share a different one every time. How about this one…

I was fortunate enough to have the band Umbrellas out to the farm for a week and the whole of the Black Watch studio guys. Also my good friend Daniel Foulks. I spent the whole of the week cooking for the guys and listening to lovely music coming from the barn. There was funny moment after funny moment. I can vividly remember Jarod Evans of Blackwatch running through one of the fields and chasing after my cow Blue with his microphone trying to get some natural sounds. Recalling the way the boys acted when I asked them to each hold a chicken for a capture still can make me roll. For a lovely evening we had the amazing Charlie Hall & Sethy McCarroll joining us for a day and having a cookout. We had a very tiny round grill and managed to fit over 5 large steaks on it’s top, and I must say, they were some of the best I have ever had. I also enjoyed watching the wonderful Nathan Price do a bit of painting while taking in the grandeur of the wheat fields.

The census woman happened to stop by while the band was visiting the homestead and it took her a while to be convinced that, yes, I was the only resident and no this is not a commune.

3. Tell us about your creative process as a photographer and artist.

Goodness gracious… my process. Honestly, I just take my fanciful daydreams and make them come to reality. If I wish to have a picnic in the middle of a wheat field, I am going to make that happen, and take a capture of it. I use only natural light and almost always a low DOF (the low depth of field is what can make one part of the image in focus, and the rest all blurry and dreamy). I am also constantly doing things to inspire myself, even if slightly crazy. In fact, yesterday I was feeling a bit low so I decided to go for a swim with the frogs in the pond, while leaving my dress on shore. Ohhhh my goodness…the pond is really nothing but red mud right now, so really it was more of a spa mud treatment, and all for free. All in all, this inspired me to take a picture in the next few weeks of myself wrapped in pumpkin vines, as if I had become part of the pumpkin patch on the west side of my cottage. So my advice to you is to go run in the rain. Roll through the fields and love the life you were given. Life is too short not to go swimming with the frogs. Go bake a pie you crazy darlin dear!!

Well… I have a lot of artists I adore. Many of them are my good friends here in Oklahoma. So to be fair, I only want to mention one gent and he lives in the great state of Kentucky. His name is Wendell Berry and it is my dream to one day bake a pie with him and his wife. Go check out his books.

8. Favorite 405 hangout spot?

I am really enjoying the New Botanical gardens. I went on a picnic there a weekend or so ago and I must say, lovely job OKC. I am sure I was not supposed to, but I kicked off my boots and waded in the new cobblestone river. I pretended that I was in Montana Salmon Fishing.

9. Favorite local restaurant?

Ludavine!!! If you have not gone there, then go. They support local farmers and make amazing food. Jonathon Stranger, you are the best☺

10. What projects are you working on right now?

I am working on a new project called “The Bucolic Series”. It is my way of combating our drought state of mind and creating lovely thriving scenes of green, grace and growth. Lots of agrarian images, fruit & Veggies. Also, lots of honey.

On the farm, I am working tilling up the ground around the main house and the guest cottage for more gardens & also working with my old man friend Rodger with his beehives. We hope to have a lovely spring, and between him and myself, have a lovely world of Jersey Milk and Wichita Honey.
